Ato Girma Seyfu

The prime minister must be careful, should not be influenced by individuals opinions thrown at him from all directions.
The public and the elites must debate the issues before reaching consensus.
I have just watched Ato Girma Seyfu on ESAT lobbying for presidential system of government,
he is entitled to his opinion, but I think we should consider things very carefully,
we should not be driven emotionally the fact that Meles misused the rules does not mean parliamentary system of government is wrong.

For example, Ato Girma mentioned the UK government,
in UK the people elect their representative in each constituency or in each Qebelles or Woredas,
before that.. each potential candidate is selected and approved by the political party machine and by each grassroots member of the party,
the candidate background is checked whether involved in racism toward others, misconduct or misappropriate stuff, and if capable of representing public, etc. academic qualification is not the most important thing, experience and track record of individual candidate, most candidates grown through grassroots of the party from woreda to all the way, after that.. the people vote for the individual candidate through the party.
Not every member of parliament is smart enough to lead the country, the best one is elected to become the leader of each party, the party with majority MPs form government, or make coalition government by compromising with another party, if the prime minister is weak or corrupt, straight away the party remove him from power without going another messy general election or wait for five years before electing another president. This system is good if the rules are done properly.

For example the presidential system in Kenya, always Kikuyu ethnic win, Kikuyu are the largest about 20% but they make deal with small ethnics form government freezing out other largest ethnics like the Luo. The father Kenyatta made a deal with Daniel Arap Moi small ethnic, and now the son Kenyatta made a dead with William Ruto small ethnic freezing out Raila Odinga, four elections Raila had been cheated.
Just look at Ugandan presidential election and other Africans, full of corrupt dictators, they promise one thing they do totally different. I like Dr Abiy but I do not trust him, that chair is sweet, he will change his mind after one term or after some years. Parliamentarian system if the rules are made properly, it makes the PM humble public servant.

this kind of discussion should continue nationwide in a organized way
to bring consensus to shape policies and to heal wounds.
