Dear Abe
I was a big fan of your writings which were very insicive and interesting. I don't find the same inspiration in the "Waza ena Kumneger" programme you are trying to run on ESAT. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the editorial policy of ESAT requires it to be like that. With the first few episodes I was giving you the 'benefit of the doubt' when people were criticising your work. I was seeing that you were experimenting a new culture of political satire on TV and that cannot be a bad thing. But the more time passes the more ridiculous it is becoming. The Ethiopian people need to be educated and satire is one way of doing it. There are a lot of things that are happening in Ethiopian politics. And that includes our opposition parties and activists. How will they become strong alternatives if the only mistakes that we want corrected as the ones from the government?. Have you ever seen what Trevor Noah joked about the marikana incident? It can be a good lesson to our satirists and humorists.
In your latest episode you took on the extremely sensitive of the protests issue. You could have used your humor to calm things down. To bring different perspectives into the scene and give us food for thoughts. Yes there are protests in Oromia. Yes there are genuine concerns from the people but the situation shouldn't be presented as a desired situation. When I see presentations from you or other programmes in some media I have the impression that you say "wow it is about time now that a few lives are lost.what took them so long?
You also raised the Sudan issue. There is nothing wrong with PM saying that he was asked this question already. You used that as one of the issues as if you are trying to occupy time. This for me has become the trademark of your program
We share a huge border with Sudan. I heard Mengistu say that the problem is with a small portion of that border. But if some of our people are really crossing the border and committing banditry on the other side then we should admit that this is not good. for me the fact that we don't react the same when it happens around Moyale is suspicious and I think that maybe there is more than the eye can see. Our slogan which said that " Yesew anifelegim yerasachinin anisetim" has two messages in it. One of it is we don't want something that doesn't belong to us
