ReDefine life is BACK with the 3rd Fundraiser Debate Competition on April 28th.

Topic - 'Maintain Cultural identity VS Assimilation'

The event includes a debate competition, classic Ethiopian books auction, buffet-style Ethiopian cusine dinner and a live classical Ethiopian piano performance. The debate will be on the topic of 'Maintaining cultural identity VS Assimilation'. There will be debaters arguing for each side. The winners will be selected by three judges who will be evaluating the teams based on clarity, degree of persuasion and quality of argument. The audience will also participate by voting before and after the debate to decide the outcome of the audience choice.

The purpose of this fundraiser debate is to raise funds in order to finance the RDL girl's project. As of 2009, we are raising five girls in Ethiopia by providing them with food, school tuition, school supplies, mentoring and transportation. The funds from this event will go directly to fund this project. The debate will be held at the Fraser Mansion on April 28th.

Join us and be a part of this celebration of Ethiopian literature, Ethiopian Cuisine and an interesting exchange thoughts and opinions about why one should maintain their cultural identity more than assimilate or vice verse.... when they immigrate to a foreign land....
EthioTube will be there as always!! See you there
Thank you EthioTube for being there and capturing the moments at both the debates. This event was organized by RDL - Redefine Life Foundation as a fundraiser event in order to raise kids that come from difficult backgrounds so they can stay in school and have their basic needs met. This year we decided to organize a series of debate competitions. The funds raised will be used to finance the RDL girl's project. As of 2009, we are raising five girls by providing them with food, school tuition, school supplies, mentoring and transportation. The funds from this event are going directly to fund this project.
Thank you all that took the time to give us any feedback.
For more questions, suggestion and information, please email tsiness@gmail.com or visit our website http://www.redefinelife.org/

Thanks

By the way, what is the point of holdin the debate in English if the debators, the moderator and the judges all are Ethiopians? If their english is anything to go by, English is not their first language? Why would they go through all the difficulty of expressing their ideas in a foreign language when their mother tongue can do the job well?
