Somehow I lost completely my confidence on Dr. Birhanu Nega. A person claiming to be fit for leadership position! He doesn't sound to give an academic or scientific analysis to the cause of economic problems in Ethiopia. He sounds to express his political grievance and very polarized to give an accurate picture of the reality in Ethiopia. Forget about the solution! We all have dissatisfaction and sadness about rulers and governments that happened since the Kingdoms. What we need is a genuine scientific solution. How do we solve problems in science. I don't need to go through that for Dr. Nega. Hurricane Katrina caused a huge damage on lives and economy of many. But people don't grudge teeth on Katrina and iterate it as the cause of their problem. Instead work positively to avoid possible future Katrinas. Problem we are facing shouldn't be different. We need bread to eat, water to drink, education, etc. How do we achieve that? Was Ethiopia ok before Ginbot 7. A country of nearly 70 million people with close to 90% living in poverty for decades, was it that difficult to figure out the existing reality in Ethiopia. People were dying from hunger for decades in Ethiopia. This should be, in my opinion, our basis and give rigorous analysis taking into factor all what happened in the past and present. Mentioning strength and weaknesses of governments on top of the fact that people,90% or so of the population, lead a living that is very backward. Our reference should not only be the current global crisis or Ginbot 7. I agree the global crisis will worsen it. Ginbot 7 affected only those 190 or so poor Ethiopians who were murdered and their families. I apologize if I didn't put the correct number. Probably it has seriously affected those who were also looking for power in the government. But not the poor majority Ethiopians. I said that because it would have been "same old same old" even if there had been a new government by people like Dr. Nega. We found out soon after Ginbot 7 what their motto was. Power! Until we get people who serve, hope is bleak for Ethiopia! But let's not forget the fact, Ethiopia has been a country of starving people! If we consider only cities and people from well to do families like Dr. Nega, then Ethiopia was probably in their mind well before Ginbot 7 or at the time of the derg ,the King and before. Please, now Ethiopia means ~70 million people. Dr Birhanu's analysis consider only places where people use money for buying supplies and talk about living expenses. Unfortunately those close to 90% or so don't even have the money to complain about the hiking food and commodity prices. They rely what nature has been providing. When the natural supplies dry, they PERISH.
